Theme 2014 - Lost In Latin America

‘Andale Andale, Arriba, Arriba’

This summer Standon Calling is ‘Lost In Latin America’. Get ready to enter the unknown, embrace the exotic and experience the unfamiliar. You’ll be far, far from home.

Standon Calling thrusts you into a new world where you’ll be enveloped in a cornucopia of alternative sights, smells and sounds. Dance to the Standon samba beat, ride a llama through the festival, taste everything from churros to chillis in our Caracas street market, enter a Mexican wrestling competition, guide a boat down our Amazonian river, explore an ancient rainforest or experience a luxurious afternoon in our lagoon. Think colour! Think heat! Think salsa!

On the Saturday afternoon the Standon Carnivale will beat its way through the festival and you can be part of it. After the success of last year’s workshops when the audience created the Standon People’s Circus, this year we’ll be inviting all festival-goers to arrive to site early and take part in flamenco dancing, float building, piñata making and voodoo ritual workshops. Workshop attendees will become our very own high priests and lead the carnival procession, which culminates in the fancy dress competition.

And when you fancy a tequila or two, leave your sombreros, pistoleros and inhibitions at the door as you enter our on-site pub, which’ll be transformed into a cantina with a difference. It’s the kind of place you can share a jug of voodoo juice with a jungle tribesman, play cards with a conquistador, eat mushrooms with a Mayan, chat up an Inca or have a coffee with a capybura.

But when the sun sets, the atmosphere shifts. Suddenly the ancient rainforest comes alive with jungle life, the drums start beating, fires are lit and magic lurks in the shadows. Where once stood a humble cowshed, lies an accursed Aztec temple (complete with a nightclub where you can party until 5am naturally). And this isn’t the only place to lose your mind in. All over the site they’ll be different themed venues bringing to life the spirit of everything from Machu Picchu to mescal-soaked narcotraficantes.

So, come with us on a journey and get Lost In Latin America this summer.
