The Fields of Standon

A Music Festival In The Grounds Of A Lordship

'Set in the rolling hills of Standon Lordship in Hertfordshire, Standon Calling is a quintessentially bonkers British festival, one that presides in a magical bowl shadowed by crop-circled fields and low-swooping clouds.' Planet Notion

Set amongst some of the most idyllic villages in the UK, we take a glimpse at the glorious grounds of Standon.

The Tree Bar, the first secret stage

Founded in the Norse-Saxon wars of the 9th century and located just 40 minutes north of London, the village of Standon sits on the old Cambridge Road set in the valley of the River Rib, which winds its way around the festival site.

Standon Lordship, Home of the Trenchard Family

Standon Lordship was built way back in 1546 by Ralph Sadlier, Secretary of State to Elizabeth I. Sadlier came to prominence as a protege of Thomas Cromwell, central character of Hilary Mantel's novel Wolf Hall which was recently turned into a six-part TV adaptation on BBC 2. Whilst we owe Ralph the Lordship grounds, in the book he comes across as quite a stern youth, so we're not sure what he would have made of a music festival taking place in his personal gardens.

The Lordship is now home to Lord & Lady Trenchard, festival founder Alex's parents. For the last ten years they have opened their home up to the public, although in the early years unwittingly. Alex threw the first parties when they were safely away in Scotland, and his parents only found out when they read about "the debauchery" in the local newspaper. These days, however, they are very much part of the action, with their own unique interpretations of each year's fancy dress theme.

The Lordship Lawn, home of the pub & the swimming pool

Set in an idyllic landscape just 40 minutes from London, Standon Calling is a festival you’ll never want to leave.

Set in the stunning grounds of Standon Lordship, our critically-acclaimed line-up provides a memorable soundtrack to a weekend filled with sunshine, new experiences and a healthy dose of unexpected surprises, in a festival big enough to lose yourself in, but small enough to feel like a private party only you and your friends know about.

By day soak up the sun in the green fields in front of the main stage and take a dip in our swimming pool, by night, seek out our legendary nightclub in a Cowshed and host of secret hideaways to ignite your hedonistic dreams.
