Stealing Sheep up for Award
Ahead of their second performance at Standon Calling, Stealing Sheep are up for Liverpool’s answer to the Mercury Prize or the GIT Award as it is officially called. Named after the Liverpool-based blog Getintothis, 11 artists besides Stealing Sheep are on the short-list for the prize, which is the first-ever of its kind.
“The first GIT Award shortlist highlights the wealth of new musical talent within Merseyside,” says award founder Peter Guy. “The artists are ambitious and inventive, emotional and passionate, funny and profound…proving why Liverpool is still the centre of the music universe.”
Stealing Sheep say Standon Calling is the band’s favourite festival.
“We’re really happy to be nominated for the Scouse New Music Prize!” says the band. “It’s a great kick start to a summer of tours and festivals including highlights like Standon Calling!!! Our favourite festival last year! Really looking forward to the lineup and we can’t wait to see Field Music play!”
The winner will be announced on April 27 by a judging panel including representatives from NME, Vice, the Guardian, The Quietus and..er…Liverpool football club.
